• Membership consultations Beginning in December 2001 the Biochemical Society intends to consult its members regularly on hot topics affecting the biosciences. • A Biosciences Federation? This page records the developments in an ongoing exploration within the community of a possible structure that would enable closer collaboration of all representative bodies in the biosciences.
• Draft Biosciences Benchmarking Document. The Quality Assurance Agency plans to move to a benchmark system for assessing teaching quality in universities. A Panel elected by the biological sciences community has drafted a benchmark that characterizes attributes that biological sciences graduates would be expected to possess. Members of the biological sciences community are now invited to comment on the draft.
  In addition to commenting on the draft to QAA as requested, respondents are asked to e-mail their views to [email protected] in order to inform the Biochemical Society. The Chairman of the Panel will present the draft and answer questions at the Biochemical Society meeting for Heads of Department on 2 May. The benchmark finally agreed will be an important element of any future plans of the Society to offer a process of Course Recognition
